The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), BSUTH Makurdi Unit, has formally petitioned the Benue State Police Command to investigate and prosecute one Mr. Asom Jerry for alleged cybercrime, defamation, and the unauthorized release of confidential salary details of nurses at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital.

In a strongly worded petition submitted on Thursday, 11th December 2025 and signed by Unit Chairman Tordoo Kefas and Secretary Ashikabe Friday P. JP, the union accused Asom Jerry of publishing a document on 9th December containing names and purported monthly earnings of BSUTH nurses alongside what they described as “unsubstantiated and defamatory allegations of misconduct” against both the union leadership and hospital management.

The union made it clear that neither NANNM nor any of its members authorized the publication, stressing that Mr. Jerry has no official connection whatsoever with the association or the teaching hospital.

“We state categorically that neither the Association nor any of its members authorized the false publication from Mr. Asom Jerry, and we hereby distance ourselves from the online publication in its entirety,” the petition read.

Describing the leak as a “serious breach of privacy,” NANNM warned that exposing workers’ monthly earnings to the public puts its members at both personal and professional risk, adding that the content was “defamatory in nature” and had placed nurses in “serious danger.”

Copies of the petition have also been sent to the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Benue State and the Secretary to the State Government.

The nurses are demanding a thorough investigation and the prosecution of everyone involved in what they term a deliberate act of cyber stuffing, defamation, and violation of privacy rights.

As the petition gains traction, many are watching to see how quickly the police will act on a case that touches on the growing menace of online leaks, doctored documents, and character assassination in Nigeria’s digital space. For now, Asom Jerry’s name is firmly in the spotlight, for all the wrong reasons.
