Benue State has added another feather to its cap as the Director General of the Bureau of Special Projects and Infrastructures, Engr. Prof. Gabriel Delian Akpen, was today inducted as a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) – the highest professional honour the foremost engineering body bestows on its members.
The investiture took place at the ongoing NSE International Engineering Conference, Exhibition, and Annual General Meeting holding in Ibadan, Oyo State.
This year’s conference, themed “Engineering Innovation for a Sustainable Blue Economy,” recognises outstanding engineers whose contributions have significantly shaped the profession, driven innovation, and impacted national development. Prof. Akpen’s elevation to Fellow status stands as a resounding endorsement of his decades of excellence in engineering practice, academia, and public service, particularly his transformative work on infrastructure delivery across Benue State and Nigeria.
Widely regarded as one of the state’s most accomplished technocrats, Prof. Akpen has spearheaded numerous landmark projects that have improved road networks, public buildings, water schemes, and rural electrification in Benue, earning praise for combining technical expertise with efficient project execution even in challenging environments.
The NSE conference remains the country’s premier gathering of engineers, academics, industry leaders, and policymakers, providing a platform to exchange ideas, deepen collaboration, and chart engineering-driven pathways for national growth. This year’s focus on sustainable infrastructure and the emerging opportunities in Nigeria’s blue economy has drawn hundreds of delegates from across the continent.
Reacting to the honour, sources close to the DG described it as “well-deserved recognition of a quiet but relentless achiever who has consistently raised the bar in engineering administration and infrastructure development in Benue State.”
Prof. Akpen becomes the latest in a growing list of distinguished Benue sons and daughters receiving national and international accolades, further cementing the state’s reputation as a fertile ground for intellectual and professional excellence.
