History was made yesterday in Agasha as the Benue State College of Health Sciences and Technology held its 4th matriculation ceremony, welcoming 470 bright-eyed students and simultaneously announcing that the institution is now officially a full-fledged monotechnic.

Provost Daniel Vershima Zar broke the news with barely contained excitement: the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has granted the college full monotechnic status, meaning it can now run an even wider range of professional health programmes with national recognition. A bill giving the upgrade full legal teeth has already passed the Benue State House of Assembly and is only waiting for Governor Hyacinth Alia’s signature.

The 470 new students spread across seven departments, including the brand-new Orthopaedic Cast Technology and Epidemiology & Disease Control programmes that admitted their very first sets yesterday. Admission quotas have also been massively expanded; Pharmacy Technician slots, for instance, jumped from 30 to 75.

Zar called the day “clothed in promise, purpose, and progress,” pointing to new infrastructure, better accreditation scores, and a clear vision to make the college the undisputed leader in health technology education across North-Central Nigeria. He promised graduates who are not just skilled but genuinely compassionate healers.

Representing the Governing Council chairman, Dr. Barnabas Vangerwaa and Mrs. Rebecca Tor charged the freshers to uphold integrity and compassion above everything else, reminding them that they’re training to literally hold people’s lives in their hands.

Some of the matriculants (Lazarus Terhemen, Faith Aluna, and Uhule Simon) couldn’t hide their joy, saying the college’s rising profile and the passion to serve humanity pushed them to choose Agasha over anywhere else.
