The media team of the Office of the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, has dismissed claims by PDP candidate for Makurdi North, Hon. Nomji Oroduen Titus, that Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga visited the German Floor area of North Bank to disrupt his campaign office. In a statement dated 27 September 2026, the team described the allegations as false, untrue, misleading and politically motivated.
According to the statement, the Honourable Speaker, who is also the APC candidate for Makurdi North, visited the facility strictly in his capacity as landlord of the property. He inspected the premises and began activities there as he prepares for full political engagement. The team insisted that Emberga did not storm the premises with thugs, attack anyone, order anyone to be beaten, or disrupt any campaign rally.
The statement argued that Nomji’s narrative creates a false impression that the Speaker feels threatened by his candidacy for the 2027 election. It stressed that Emberga is not losing sleep over anyone’s decision to contest against him, describing him as a seasoned grassroots politician who understands that elections are contests and that citizens have the constitutional right to seek elective office. “There is absolutely nothing extraordinary about another person presenting himself for the same office,” the statement said.
The media team further noted that Emberga is deeply rooted among the people of Makurdi North, enjoys strong support and goodwill across the constituency, and remains focused on his responsibilities as Speaker and on the progress of the area. It described as unfortunate the attempt by Nomji, whom it linked to a “failed political party PDP that crippled Benue State,” to portray an ordinary property visit as evidence of intimidation.
The statement urged Nomji and his supporters to resist the temptation to politicise every legitimate activity of the Speaker and to resolve any genuine contractual disagreement over the facility through appropriate legal and administrative channels with the party from whom he claims to have rented the property. It emphasised that political rhetoric cannot substitute for the facts of a property transaction.
Calling on the public, particularly residents of Makurdi North, to disregard the claims, the team said the opposition should look elsewhere to ventilate its desperation rather than manufacturing false narratives around legitimate private property matters. It appealed to all political actors ahead of the 2027 elections to conduct their campaigns with responsibility and maturity, stressing that the people of Makurdi North deserve issue-based politics, not manufactured controversies.
Rt. Hon. Alfred Emberga, the statement concluded, remains a true democrat and peace-loving citizen committed to the progress and development of Makurdi North and Benue State.
