The Benue State Government has imposed an immediate ban on all activities of the Benue State Motor Cycle Hirers Association (BEMOA), including meetings, bookings, and related engagements, until further notice. The decision, announced by Air Commodore (Rtd.) JA Gbamwuan, Director General of the Bureau of Homeland Security, aims to address security concerns and uphold the rule of law.
The ban follows a purported election allegedly organized by Mr. Jacob Ternenge Nevkaa and Mr. Terfa Ahaa, which declared Mr. Terfa Ahaa as the new BEMOA Chairman. The government has categorically rejected the election, labeling it illegal and a potential threat to public peace. It also violates directives from constituted authorities, prompting the decisive action.
In a press statement, the government warned those illegally parading themselves as BEMOA leaders to desist immediately. It reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all associations and unions operate within their constitutional boundaries while supporting security efforts. The public and stakeholders are urged to disregard any claims arising from the disputed election.
