Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has approved a series of key appointments and the creation of new agencies as part of efforts to strengthen governance and improve service delivery in the state.
The decisions, announced on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, include the appointment of heads for newly created or designated agencies and the constitution of a state projects monitoring team.
Engr. Thaddeus Terngu Tarzomon has been appointed pioneer General Manager of the Benue State Roads Maintenance Agency. Dr. Ben Ebe has been named Benue State Coordinator of the North Central Development Commission. Mrs. Mercy Turugh has been appointed Executive Secretary of the Benue State Agency for Recreation and Parks, while Mr. Samuel Terungwa Agwa has been appointed Benue State Coordinator of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
The governor also approved the constitution of the Benue State Project Monitoring Team. Engr. Dr. Felix Atume, mni, will serve as Chairman. Other members are Engr. Cephas Suswam, Surveyor Bartholomew Feese, Engr. Terna Ibi, Engr. S.A. Baba, Arch. Idu John Adakole, Engr. Jijingi Emmanuel, and Engr. Mlumun Ikpaahindi as Secretary.
The team is expected to oversee and track the implementation of government projects across all sectors, ensure compliance with approved project specifications, timeliness and budgets, conduct periodic inspections and submit detailed reports to the office of the Governor, identify delays, substandard work or deviations and recommend corrective actions, serve as independent eyes of the government to ensure value for money and quality delivery, and advise the government on the cost of projects and value-for-money considerations.
In addition, the Governor approved the immediate deployment of the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. James Dwam, to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. He has also transmitted the name of Hon. Ankwa Amo II as a commissioner nominee to the Benue State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
