Hon. Nomji Oroduen Titus, the PDP candidate for Makurdi North State Constituency in the 2027 general elections, has alleged an attempt by the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly and APC candidate for the same constituency, Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga, to disrupt the operations of his campaign office. In a press statement issued on 26 September 2026, Nomji said the office is located at the popular German Flow area along Gandy Road, North Bank, Makurdi.
According to the statement, Nomji personally rented the facility for a period of six months, paid the agreed rent and took lawful possession of the premises before the reported purchase of the property by Hon. Alfred Berger. He subsequently established a Mega PDP Campaign Office at the location as part of his preparations for the 2027 election. He said he had been informed that the Speaker had allegedly purchased the same property and was threatening to pull down the campaign office.
Nomji maintained that a subsequent purchase of the property does not automatically extinguish an existing tenancy that was entered into before the purchase. Whoever has acquired the property, he argued, is expected to respect the existing tenancy and comply with the terms of the tenancy agreement and applicable law. Having already paid for the six-month tenancy and being in lawful possession, he stated that if the new owner wished to recover possession, the appropriate legal process must be followed, including any notice required under the agreement and the law.
He said he would not accept any attempt to use political influence, intimidation or force to dispossess him of a facility for which he had already paid rent. Any attempt to demolish, destroy or forcibly take over the campaign office without due process, he warned, would be met with immediate legal action, and he would pursue all lawful remedies available to protect his rights and interests.
Nomji called on Hon. Alfred Berger, as Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly and a public office holder, to respect the rule of law and allow the matter to be handled peacefully through the appropriate legal channels. He also appealed to his supporters and members of the public to remain calm and peaceful, stressing that there was no need for confrontation and that the law provides avenues for resolving disputes. His campaign for the representation of the people of Makurdi North, he added, remains focused, peaceful and committed to the people.
