Nollywood actor Akume Akume A, a popular professional from Benue State, Nigeria, has been the subject of a misleading social media campaign after a picture of him was circulated claiming he is a bandit.
In a strongly worded disclaimer, the actor and his associates have clarified that the photo in question is not real-life evidence of criminal activity but a still taken on the set of the movie titled *A Journey to Matydom*. In the film, Akume Akume portrayed the role of an evil terrorist commander.
The movie tells the story of a schoolgirl who was adopted and forced to denounce and deny her faith. It also features other notable actors including Francis Duru, Tony Goodman, and others. The project was directed by Chima O. and produced by Moses Adailo.
The false narrative was reportedly first posted by a blogger identified as “Okafor Edith Tochi” (also referred to as Okafor Edith Faith). The clarification describes the post as misleading and a false narrative that should be completely disregarded by the public.
The statement, issued in collaboration with the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD-West Africa), serves as an official disclaimer to protect the actor’s reputation and set the record straight.
