Chief Prof. Sebastian Tartenger Hon, SAN, a leading aspirant for the Benue State governorship in 2027, has reaffirmed his commitment to tackling the state’s pressing challenges of insecurity, poverty, and underdevelopment.
Addressing various support groups and community leaders during a courtesy visit on Friday, June 5, 2027, Prof. Hon declared that his aspiration is driven by a divine mandate and deep concern for the suffering of Benue people. He lamented the ongoing killings in ancestral communities, stating that innocent citizens are being slaughtered while many leaders remain indifferent.
“God has called me to rescue our people from these challenges,” he said, vowing to be a strong voice against insecurity. He promised an aggressive agricultural revolution that would include heavy subsidies on fertilisers and herbicides, construction of artificial lakes and boreholes for irrigation, and government-backed produce purchasing schemes to ensure farmers’ profitability.
Prof. Hon also outlined plans to attract foreign investors for industrialisation, create employment opportunities for youths, revive and expand scholarship programmes for Benue students abroad, and support sports development as a tool for unity. He further pledged comprehensive grant schemes for artisans, traders, farmers, women groups, and young entrepreneurs to promote self-reliance and wealth creation.
On the issue of zoning, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria argued strongly in favour of Benue North East (Zone A), citing historical precedents and the need for equity. He assured the people of his dedication to restoring peace, enabling displaced persons to return safely to their homes, and strengthening traditional institutions.
“I am coming to rescue and rebuild Benue. I will remain a unifier of our people,” Prof. Hon stated, urging residents to support his vision for a prosperous and secure state.
The aspirant’s remarks have generated significant discussions across Benue, as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to intensify.
