Political Writer Defends Senator Gabriel Suswam’s Strong Ties with Ukum Community

A political writer, Bede Bartholomew, has issued a robust response to remarks attributed to Senator Emmanuel Udende, strongly defending Senator Gabriel Torwua Suswam’s long-standing relationship with the Ukum community in Benue State.

In his statement, Bartholomew described Suswam as a political figure with deep roots in Ukum, including maternal lineage connections to the area. He highlighted Suswam’s consistent support for political actors and development efforts in the locality, noting that the former governor had backed candidates such as Hon. Mzenda Iho and Hon. Richard Gbande in previous elections and facilitated appointments for indigenes of the area.

Bartholomew insisted that “records are there” to support claims of Suswam’s contributions, adding that his influence in Ukum and surrounding constituencies remains significant. He further portrayed Suswam and the Ukum people as “irreplaceable companions,” suggesting a deep political and social bond between them.

The writer noted that Suswam’s engagements in Ukum form part of wider political activities across the constituency.
