A growing humanitarian and security crisis is unfolding in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, where residents say repeated attacks by suspected armed herdsmen have forced entire communities to flee, leaving behind deserted homes and farmlands reportedly occupied by unknown elements.

A drive from Anyiin to Ayilamo reveals rows of abandoned houses overtaken by weeds, marking what locals describe as once-thriving farming settlements now reduced to ghost villages. Residents allege that communities stretching from Tsukwa to Akwana and extending towards Ayilamo in Tombo Council Ward were emptied following repeated attacks. They insist the displacement was driven by fear rather than economic migration.

A resident, who spoke anonymously, described the scale of abandonment: “From Tsukwa down to Akwana and even near Ayilamo, the houses are completely deserted.” The affected communities were known for cultivating yam, cassava, and maize. However, displaced families now face severe hardship after losing access to their farmlands and primary sources of livelihood.

Adding to the concerns, locals claim mining activities have emerged in many of the deserted areas. They note that while villages were attacked, mining operators appear to function without interference. Residents say the situation has fueled suspicion and tension, with many questioning why farmers were targeted while mining sites remain untouched.

“We are afraid to return. People believe they could be killed if they go back,” another resident said.

The development underscores growing fears over security lapses and alleged land occupation, as displaced communities in Logo LGA continue to grapple with uncertainty and loss. Many families have been rendered destitute, with their only means of survival stripped away by the persistent violence.
