In a press release issued on May 24, 2026, the Command stated that Sesugh was involved in a fraud and cybercrime case being investigated by the EFCC. He was arrested alongside James Onuh and Solomon Aondoakura Orhena on April 28, 2026, but the trio reportedly escaped from the EFCC facility on May 4, 2026.

He was immediately rushed to Police Cottage Hospital, Makurdi, where he was confirmed dead. His corpse has since been deposited at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police has directed the DC CID to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining fugitives.
