The political temperature in Benue State rose a few degrees this afternoon as Governor Hyacinth Alia’s Principal Special Assistant on Youth and Media Mobilization, Terver Atu, delivered a blistering response to Hon. Asema Achado, the member representing Gwer East/Gwer West Federal Constituency.

Achado had reportedly described his support for Governor Alia during the 2023 elections as “a mistake” and urged the people to forgive him ahead of 2027. The comment did not sit well with the governor’s camp, and Atu wasted no time clapping back.

In a scathing statement that has since gone viral, Atu labelled Achado “a perennial aspirant” in Gwer who has contested almost every election cycle without success, calling him a textbook example of political failure. “The mere pronouncement of Governor Alia’s name unites the people, not politics, but grace and divine acceptance,” Atu wrote. “That same goodwill carried him (Achado) to Abuja as a House of Representatives member for the first time.”

Atu accused the lawmaker of insulting the collective will of Benue people who voted overwhelmingly to end decades of underdevelopment, reminding him that in 2027 voters will no longer tolerate empty claims. “The people are not blind. Tell them what you have done with their mandate for three years instead of blaming the governor as if he owes you child support.”

He dismissed Achado’s plea for forgiveness as an outdated tactic once used by former governors Suswam and Ortom that ultimately failed at the polls. “Political relevance comes from service, humility, gratitude, and reverence for God’s anointed. Doing no project while attacking the governor will only remind the people of past mistakes,” Atu warned.

Wrapping up his broadside, the governor’s aide reaffirmed massive public support for Governor Alia: “It was the Benue masses who voted for him, and he continues to make them proud. They will vote wisely again in 2027.”

The sharp exchange has further exposed the growing rift between some APC federal lawmakers and the Alia administration, with youth groups and party faithful already rallying behind the governor’s camp. As 2027 draws closer, what started as subtle shades now looks like open political warfare.
