Information circulating on social media has claimed that Fulani herdsmen have been grazing cattle at the site of an abandoned Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp under construction by the Benue State Government in Yelwata. According to a post shared by a Facebook user, the herdsmen had been present at the location since morning and allegedly refused to move their cattle to another area.
The post, which included a photograph showing a large herd of cattle grazing near incomplete buildings on a grassy field, appealed to residents of Yelwata for confirmation of the report. The development, if verified, has raised concerns among online observers regarding the use of the government project site for livestock grazing.
As of the time of the circulating report, no official statement from the Benue State Government or security agencies addressing the matter was immediately available.
