Prof. Utsev Leads Nigerian Delegation to World Water Congress in Glasgow

The Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, FNSE, will tomorrow, Saturday, October 3, 2026, lead the Federal Government delegation to the 15th World Water Congress and Exhibition in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

Organised by the International Water Association (IWA), the biennial flagship event is a leading global gathering of water and allied professionals covering the full water cycle. The Congress is expected to attract about 10,000 critical stakeholders from across the globe, including policymakers, researchers, water professionals, development partners and technology innovators.

Themed “The Path to Resilience and Prosperity,” the 2026 Congress will focus on translating water action into practical, real-world solutions to address regional and global water challenges. It will feature high-level and technical sessions on critical issues such as water utility management, wastewater recovery, drinking water reuse, water resilience and sustainable water resource management. The gathering will also provide a platform for high-level discussions on key barriers to closing the financing gap for Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), which seeks to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

At the global event, Prof. Utsev is expected to highlight key reforms and initiatives being implemented under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to expand access to clean, safe and sustainable water for Nigerians. Among the initiatives to be showcased is the National Water Compact, being developed in collaboration with State Governments and development partners to accelerate access to safe water, strengthen sector coordination and unlock investment opportunities in Nigeria’s water sector.

The Minister will also present other interventions and reforms that have contributed to accelerating access to safe water for more than 32 million Nigerians, in line with the Federal Government’s commitment to improving water security and advancing the achievement of SDG 6.
