In a significant show of solidarity and early political support, the Nigeria Union of Pensioners and the Benue State Motorcycle Hirers Association (BEMOA) have purchased the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship nomination and expression of interest forms for Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia ahead of the 2027 election.
The two groups formally presented the forms to Governor Alia on Wednesday at the Old Banquet Hall of the Government House in Makurdi.
Announcing the development, Benue State Network News reported that the pensioners and commercial motorcycle operators (okada riders) jointly funded and handed over the APC nomination forms to the governor as a demonstration of their confidence in his leadership.
An elated Governor Alia received the forms and expressed deep appreciation to the pensioners and motorcycle operators for the gesture. He described the move as “a strong vote of confidence” in his administration.
The governor assured the groups that, if given the opportunity to serve a second term, he would build on his current achievements, consolidate ongoing reforms, and deliver more dividends of democracy to the people of Benue State.
This development marks one of the earliest organized endorsements for Governor Alia’s re-election bid. Both the pensioners and the Okada riders’ associations are considered important voting blocs in the state, and their decision to purchase the nomination form on his behalf is seen as a strategic political statement.
Governor Alia is yet to formally declare his intention to seek re-election in 2027, but actions such as this continue to fuel speculation and discussions around his second-term ambition within Benue political circles.
