In a strongly worded press release, the PDP mourned the death of Professor Gabriel Saawua Nyityo of Father Moses Orshio Adasu University and his younger brother, Iorngee John Nyityo, allegedly killed by armed attackers suspected to be herdsmen. The party also condoled with the family of Professor David Salifu, a former Secretary to the Benue State Government, who succumbed to gunshot injuries from a suspected kidnapper attack.
The PDP stated that every life lost represents a tragic indictment of failed leadership and a broken promise to the people. The party called on Governor Hyacinth Alia to demonstrate stronger leadership by collaborating closely with security agencies, strengthening community-based security measures, ensuring perpetrators are apprehended and prosecuted, and providing practical support to affected families.
“We call on Governor Hyacinth Alia to demonstrate stronger leadership… The era of reacting after tragedies must give way to proactive measures that prevent these attacks,” the statement read.
The PDP stood in solidarity with the people of Benue in demanding justice for the victims and all innocent citizens affected by insecurity. It emphasized that Benue deserves security, good leadership, and better governance.
