Immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, has said the emergence of a governor from Zone C in 2027 is achievable if political leaders across parties work together in unity.
Ortom, who is also a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, made the remark at his Abuja residence while receiving a delegation led by retired Air Vice Marshal Monday Morgan. The group presented Dr. Oyije Ogbenjuwa as a PDP governorship aspirant for 2027.
The former governor stressed the need for equity, justice, and fairness, noting that Zone C has yet to produce a governor in Benue State. He called for inclusive leadership that prioritises the entire state over sectional interests.
Ortom also highlighted his efforts at promoting unity, including the introduction of the Benue Unity Cap, and urged politicians to sustain harmonious relationships across party lines. He described Ogbenjuwa as “focused, vibrant, and committed,” expressing confidence in his leadership potential.
“My prayer is that in 2027, God will give us a governor for all Benue people,” Ortom said. “We need a leader who sees the entire state as his constituency.”
Earlier, Morgan praised Ortom as a detribalised leader and appealed to him to influence zoning of the governorship to Zone C. Several PDP stakeholders were present at the meeting.
