The Oju Local Government Council on Monday, August 24, 2026, held a stakeholders’ meeting to discuss the implementation of the Benue State Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law, 2017, as amended.
The meeting, attended by traditional rulers, security agencies, councillors, youth groups and other stakeholders, focused on the peaceful enforcement of the bye-law and the protection of lives and property.
Speaking on behalf of the council chairman, Hon. Ominyi Jackson Adah, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Egboja Jackson Egena, said the administration was committed to fair and responsible implementation of the law.
Legal adviser Barr. Edo Adima explained the provisions of the law, the applicable penalties and the available dispute-resolution mechanisms. Stakeholders at the meeting also raised concerns over illegal scavenging and indiscriminate tree felling in the area.
Participants pledged their support and cooperation towards the effective enforcement of the bye-law and the sustenance of peace in Oju Local Government Area.
