NURTW Wurukum Unit Chairman Comrade Thomas Terhide Drums Up Support for Governor Alia, Passes Vote of Confidence

The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Wurukum Unit in Makurdi, Comrade Nyikwangh Thomas Terhide, has rallied strong support for Governor Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Hyacinth Iormem Alia ahead of his expected re-election bid in 2027.

During a Valentine’s Day celebration with his unit executive and members, Comrade Terhide led a unanimous vote of confidence in the governor, praising his administration’s transformative impact on Benue State. The motion, moved by Comrade Wilfred Iorgyer and seconded by Comrade Thaddeus Yankyar, was passed with full endorsement from the entire executive council.

In his address, the unit chairman commended Governor Alia for his tireless efforts in repositioning the state through massive infrastructural projects, including road construction, the development of BIPIC estates, water supply initiatives, and the establishment of new companies that have created employment opportunities, particularly for youths.

Comrade Terhide pledged that his unit would work closely with the governor, stand solidly behind him, and mobilise support for his re-election in 2027. “Wurukum NURTW unit is for Governor Hyacinth Alia. Wurukum NURTW is for the progress of Benue State,” he declared, drawing loud cheers from members.

The event also featured a solidarity visit from representatives of Gboko Park branch and Makurdi Park, who joined to reinforce unity within the union and express collective backing for the current administration. Comrade Terhide used the occasion to call for collaboration in building a modern transportation system, curbing insecurity within parks, and eliminating negative practices such as the tearing down of billboards, human trafficking operations, and exploitation of passengers.

He specially saluted the State Chairman of NURTW, Comrade James Gwaza Ahula, for entrusting him with leadership responsibilities and for consistently providing guidance drawn from his wealth of experience. The chairman reiterated his commitment to working with the state leadership to achieve targeted goals for the transport sector.

The Wurukum unit expressed optimism that continued support for the Alia-led government would yield more dividends in infrastructure, job creation, and overall development. The gathering ended with chants of solidarity:

The endorsement from the influential Wurukum unit, a key transport hub in Makurdi, adds to the growing wave of support from labour and community groups across the state for Governor Alia’s leadership and re-election ambition.
