A human trafficking operation in Gboko took a dramatic turn when police, arriving to arrest a suspect, discovered a newborn baby crying in an adjacent building alongside four unaccompanied children.
According to reports, law enforcement officers had gone to Gboko to apprehend a suspect identified as Madam Akindeji, who is currently in police custody over alleged human trafficking.
During a search of the premises, officers found the newborn and the four children, who were subsequently transported to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry. The children’s mother later produced birth certificates, and after verification, the police released the children into her custody.
Meanwhile, the primary suspect, Mrs. Grace Akindeji Johnson, who also serves as the Vice President of the Catholic Women’s Organisation at St. John Catholic Gboko Central, remains in police custody as investigations continue regarding other alleged child victims.
Authorities have confirmed that the case remains active, with detectives looking into whether more children may have been involved.
