A disturbing incident has sparked outrage in Gboko after a man identified as Mr. Lawal allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted a female sex worker at Doripet Hotels, leading to her unconsciousness, before fleeing with her phone, money, and other belongings.
According to a widely circulated social media post by local activist D’nkaked Elder Sughnnen Yaaya, the incident occurred when Mr. Lawal (phone number 0706175757169) checked into the hotel with the woman. The post alleges that he administered an unknown substance—shown in a photograph—to incapacitate her, after which he assaulted her “mercilessly” until she passed out.
The suspect reportedly gathered the victim’s valuables and left the premises. However, hotel management was able to identify him through high-quality CCTV footage that captured his movements in the facility, including his arrival and departure.
The activist promised to release the complete CCTV footage soon and used the incident to warn sex workers (“oloshos”) to exercise caution, noting that the victim appeared inexperienced in the trade. He also called on anyone who knows Mr. Lawal to alert him, adding a mocking remark that the suspect should “shake body” before his own body faces consequences.
A scanned copy of the hotel guest registration form shared alongside the post lists the suspect’s details, including his name as Lawal, phone number, and other personal information filled during check-in. The form confirms he occupied Room No. 401 at the hotel located along Brigade Way, Gboko North.
The post has drawn significant attention online, with many users condemning the alleged act as a serious crime involving drugging, sexual assault, and robbery. Calls have intensified for the police to arrest Mr. Lawal and for the hotel to cooperate fully with investigators.
As of now, there has been no official statement from the Benue State Police Command or Doripet Hotels regarding the incident. The matter remains under informal public discussion pending the release of the promised CCTV evidence and any formal complaint or police action.
This case once again highlights the vulnerabilities faced by sex workers in Nigeria and the role of surveillance technology in documenting criminal acts at hospitality venues. Authorities are yet to confirm whether a formal report has been lodged or if an investigation has commenced.
