After two decades of painful blackouts, flickering bulbs, and generator noise that defined daily life, North Bank in Makurdi is about to light up for good.

Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia and Speaker Berger Alfred Emberga have just pulled off a major win for the people. The long-dead armored cable under the River Benue bridge that kept cutting power from Wurukum to the entire North Bank axis is finally being replaced  and the funds have already been approved.

No more candlelight studying. No more spoiled food in cold rooms. No more businesses shutting down every other day. The nightmare is officially over.

Speaker Emberga, who represents Makurdi North, made this his personal mission. During the 2023 campaigns he walked these streets, listened to frustrated residents, and promised that if the people voted for him and the same-party governor, he would fix the power crisis. He kept his word.

In a closed-door meeting, the Speaker (a professional Quantity Surveyor) presented the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) technical bill straight to Governor Alia. The Governor didn’t waste time with bureaucracy. He simply said: “Mr. Speaker, I will do it for your people. Go and formalize the documents.”

That single decision is already being celebrated as the perfect example of real executive-legislative synergy in Benue. No drama. No headline-chasing. Just results.

North Bank is no ordinary community. It’s home to:
– Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture
– 72 Airborne Battalion (Special Forces) Barracks
– Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering (NASME)
– NANS national clusters
– The main gateway to Gbajimba and Daudu

All of them have suffered in darkness for far too long.

With the new high-capacity armored cables now on the way, the impact will be massive:
– Small businesses and welders can finally operate without dying on diesel costs
– The community will be safer at night
– Students and lecturers get reliable power for learning and research
– Our military formations get the steady electricity they deserve

This power fix is just the latest chapter in the Alia-Emberga development story. Six new township roads are already in the 2026 budget, water projects are moving, and the Speaker says more good news is coming.

As installation kicks off, Speaker Emberga has one clear message for the people of North Bank: “You will have light again.”

After 20 years of broken promises and empty talk, the people finally have leaders who deliver.

The darkness is gone. The future just got brighter.

Welcome to the new North Bank.
