Residents of Anyiase in Moon Council Ward, Turan District, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, have welcomed the commissioning of a new water project spearheaded by the council chairman and state Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Rt. Hon. Neji Vitalis Terhile.
The borehole facility was officially inaugurated on Thursday, January 2, 2026, just hours after the chairman concluded a security briefing with stakeholders in Turan. The timing reflects a deliberate approach to community development: ensuring safety concerns are addressed before rolling out infrastructure projects that directly improve quality of life.
Access to clean water has long been a challenge in many rural wards of Kwande, where communities often rely on distant streams or seasonal sources. The new project is expected to serve households in Anyiase and surrounding areas, reducing the burden particularly on women and children who traditionally fetch water.
Local observers note that Terhile’s engagement with security operatives demonstrates a pragmatic strategy—prioritizing peace and stability as a foundation for sustainable development. By holding discussions on local safety issues before commissioning the facility, the chairman signaled commitment to protecting both the new infrastructure and the people it serves.
This initiative adds to ongoing efforts by local government leaders in Benue to deliver tangible dividends despite resource constraints and persistent security challenges across the state. For the people of Anyiase, the flowing water stands as a concrete symbol of responsive leadership and hope for continued progress in the new year.
