In a significant move towards youth and women empowerment, Hon. Emmanuel Terungwa Iorbee, the Principal Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of Benue State on Protocol and Wardrobe, has officially launched a Skills Acquisition Empowerment Programme targeting 500 beneficiaries in Ushongo Local Government Area (LGA). The event, held today, marks a bold step in fostering self-reliance and sustainable development in the region.
The programme focuses on equipping participants with practical skills in shoemaking, soap production, catering, and more, aligning with Hon. Iorbee’s grassroots development agenda under the visionary leadership of Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia. Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Hon. Iorbee emphasized the importance of building self-reliance among the youth and women, noting that the era of dependence must give way to creativity, productivity, and sustainable income generation.
“This initiative is not about politics; it is about legacy, about raising a generation that can stand on its own and build a better Benue,” Hon. Iorbee stated. He extended his heartfelt gratitude to Engineer Livinus Tsar for his unwavering support and commitment to this noble and forward-thinking initiative, highlighting how Tsar’s dedication has laid a strong foundation for the programme’s success.
Hon. Terkimbi Timothy Adzu, the Executive Chairman of Ushongo LGA, also expressed gratitude to Hon. Iorbee for considering the people of Ushongo as worthy beneficiaries of the programme. He described the empowerment project as a direct reflection of Governor Alia’s people-focused governance and Hon. Iorbee’s unwavering commitment to grassroots progress.
The programme, which continues across several LGAs with Ushongo as a strategic focus due to its vibrant youth population and entrepreneurial potential, was graced by top government officials, friends, and families. Attendees took turns to express their goodwill, pledging total and unflinching support for the initiative’s success.
Nor Jeremiah, Media Aide to the PSA, reported that the event underscored a collective effort to empower the community, with participants already showing enthusiasm for the skills training. As the programme unfolds, it promises to leave a lasting impact on Ushongo and beyond, fostering a legacy of self-sufficiency and progress.
