Hon. Aondona Uta Announces Medical Outreach Launched in Turan to Boost Healthcare Access

The Executive Secretary of the Bureau for Mines and Solid Minerals, Hon. Aondona Stephen Uta, has announced the commencement of the second phase of a free medical outreach program in Turan, Kwande Local Government. The four-day initiative, which began on October 2, 2025, aims to bring essential healthcare services to the community.

During separate engagements with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and All Progressive Congress (APC) party leaders in Jato-Aka on September 25, 2025, Hon. Uta revealed that the outreach fulfills a promise to support those in need and contribute to the healthcare sector development under Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration. The program is designed to cover the entire Kwande local government area, following the successful first phase in Shanggey-ya, with the third and fourth phases lined up for Ikyurav-ya and Nanev, respectively.

Dr. Thaddeus Aende, the outreach coordinator and team leader, detailed that the program will offer treatment for conditions such as Hernia, Hydrocele, and Symptomatic fibroid, alongside free eye checks and distribution of prescription glasses. Additional services include screening and vaccination against cervical cancer and hepatitis, surgeries for ovarian cysts and cervical prolapse, and general medical checks with assorted medications. Aende urged community leaders to encourage participation to maximize the outreach’s impact.

Local leaders, including Mue Ter Ichongo, Chief Simon Abaver JP, the Parish Priest of St. Michael’s Parish, Jato-Aka, Rev. Fr. Akpoughul, and Hon. Agogó, expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting its intended positive impact on Turan. They also requested the Executive Secretary’s intervention in other areas needing attention and praised Governor Alia for appointing Kwande sons to key government positions, enabling such programs.

Hon. Uta encouraged continued support from traditional and religious leaders for the administration’s success and called on APC supporters to remain steadfast, highlighting additional development projects approved by the Governor to benefit Kwande.
