Governor Hyacinth Alia has announced the successful completion of the reconstruction of the dual carriageway road leading to the Benue State Government House in Makurdi, a project that has been hailed as a significant achievement by supporters of his administration.
The road, which serves as a key access route to the seat of government, had reportedly fallen into severe disrepair over several previous administrations, with successive governments failing to address its deteriorating condition despite its strategic importance and high visibility.
According to a post shared by Alia TV Network, a media platform aligned with the governor, the rehabilitation works have now been fully executed under Governor Alia’s leadership, transforming the once-neglected stretch into a smooth, well-paved dual carriageway complete with proper drainage, kerbs, and landscaping.
The announcement described the completion as a “great feat” and expressed gratitude to the governor for prioritising infrastructure that had long been overlooked. Accompanying the statement were images showcasing the newly rehabilitated road, featuring a clean asphalt surface, neatly painted white and green kerbs, and a well-maintained median lined with trees.
Supporters of the administration have used the occasion to reinforce the slogan “Alia the Better,” positioning the road project as evidence of the governor’s commitment to delivering tangible dividends of democracy and improving the aesthetic and functional appeal of the state capital.
While the exact cost, timeline, and contractor details of the project were not disclosed in the public statement, the completion marks one of the visible infrastructure interventions credited to the current administration since it assumed office. The road’s upgrade is expected to ease movement for government officials, visitors, and residents in the Government House axis while enhancing the overall outlook of Makurdi’s central administrative zone.
The development comes amid ongoing discussions about the state government’s infrastructure agenda, with residents and observers watching to see whether similar attention will be extended to other critical but long-neglected roads across Benue State, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.
For now, the successful delivery of the Government House dual carriageway has been celebrated by the governor’s supporters as a clear demonstration of focused leadership and a promise kept on improving key state assets.
