The Benue State Government, led by Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, is making significant strides in the construction of the 42-kilometre Obagagaji-Okokoro-Agangbe road, a vital link connecting Agatu and Gwer West Local Government Areas.

A recent on-the-ground inspection by Benue Info-pedia on Tuesday revealed clear and visible progress along the long-neglected corridor. For decades, the poor state of this route severely restricted movement, trade, and social interactions between the two communities, particularly during the rainy season when large sections became nearly impassable.

The project is a key component of Governor Alia’s infrastructure renewal agenda, which prioritizes opening up rural areas, strengthening security, and stimulating economic activity throughout the state. Upon completion, the road is expected to dramatically ease the transportation of farm produce from the fertile Agatu area to markets in Gwer West and beyond, while substantially cutting travel times and transportation costs for residents, traders, and commuters.

Local communities along the route have welcomed the development with enthusiasm, describing it as long overdue and a true game-changer. Many residents recounted years of hardship, isolation, and limited access to essential services. They anticipate that improved road access will enhance healthcare delivery, education, and other critical social amenities in the area.

Site observations showed completed segments of the road alongside active earthworks, drainage construction, and preparatory activities. Contractors are visibly engaged across multiple sections, indicating steady momentum toward finishing the project.

Beyond its economic impact, the new road is also projected to bolster security in the region by facilitating easier movement for security patrols and rapid emergency response teams.
