Tragedy struck in the early hours of December 1, 2025, when armed bandits launched a deadly attack on a Tiv camp in Idofin, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing four people in a brutal assault that has sent shockwaves through the community.
Local sources confirmed that the gunmen stormed the settlement under the cover of darkness, opening fire indiscriminately and leaving a trail of death and destruction. The victims, whose identities are yet to be officially released, were reportedly taken by surprise in the pre-dawn raid.
The bodies of the deceased have been evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital in Isanlu for autopsy and further official procedures.
While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, the incident bears the hallmarks of the escalating banditry and communal violence that have plagued parts of the North-Central region in recent times.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement, but residents are calling for urgent security intervention to prevent further bloodshed and protect vulnerable communities living along the volatile Benue-Kogi border areas.
The attack comes barely a month after similar incidents in the region, raising fresh concerns about the safety of minority settlements and the need for stronger, coordinated action against armed criminal gangs operating across state lines.
More details are expected as investigations continue.
