Former Governor Samuel Ortom Announces Bid for Benue North-West Senatorial Seat, Pledges Support for Tinubu’s Re-election

Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has announced plans to contest the Benue North-West senatorial seat, stating that many constituents have expressed regret over their previous voting decisions. Ortom, who governed Benue State between 2015 and 2023, lost his senatorial bid in the last general election. The seat is currently held by Titus Zam, while Hyacinth Alia serves as governor.

Speaking on his political future, Ortom said calls from constituents urging him to return to the Senate influenced his decision. He maintained that many voters now believe they made the wrong choice during the last election. The former governor also disclosed his alignment with the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party linked to Nyesom Wike.

In addition, Ortom revealed plans to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a potential re-election bid. He said the feedback from constituents showed “deep regret” over past decisions, adding that he is determined to “make things right” if elected. He emphasised that his return to the political scene is driven by the desire to better represent the interests of Benue North-West residents.
