A fire outbreak struck shops around Nyon area in Makurdi, Benue State capital, on the night of December 29, 2025, sending plumes of smoke and flames into the sky as multiple structures burned.

An urgent alert posted on social media by D’naked Elder Sughnen Yaaya around 9 hours before dawn on December 30 called for immediate help, urging residents to share the message, tag Makurdi Fire Service, and contact a Nyon youth leader on 07062206611 for directions. Images shared with the post showed intense flames engulfing buildings in the darkness.

Within hours, the Benue State Fire Service responded to the scene, with officers arriving to battle the blaze. A follow-up post from the same source confirmed their presence, expressing gratitude with a simple “Benue Fire Service officers are here. Thank you.”
