The Executive Chairman of Agatu Local Government Council and Deputy Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Benue State Chapter, Hon. (Amb.) James Melvin Ejeh, on Tuesday joined local government chairmen and traditional rulers from across the country at a high-level national conference in Abuja focused on taking the Federal Government’s development agenda closer to the people.
The three-day conference, holding at the Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja, from September 22 to 24, 2026, is organised by the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs in collaboration with ALGON. Held under the theme “Cascading President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to the Grassroots,” the gathering brings together chairmen of the 774 local government councils and chairmen of traditional rulers’ councils to discuss practical approaches to improving grassroots administration, enhancing intergovernmental collaboration and ensuring effective delivery of government initiatives to communities.
The conference is aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and ensuring that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda translates into concrete programmes, opportunities and development at the local government level. For Ejeh, the conference offers another platform for Agatu and Benue State to participate in national conversations on the future of grassroots governance, particularly on how local councils can become more effective channels for delivering development and improving the welfare of citizens.
The conference is expected to deepen collaboration between local governments, traditional institutions and the Federal Government in advancing development at the grassroots.
