Buruku Council Chairman Hon. Raymond Zege Seeks Urgent Relief for Flood-Affected Etulo Communities

The Chairman of Buruku Local Government Area, Hon. Raymond Zege Aondoakura, has appealed to the Benue State Government and humanitarian organisations to urgently assist communities affected by flooding in parts of the council area.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 9, 2026, the council chairman expressed concern over reports of flooding that have affected homes, farmlands and the livelihoods of residents, particularly farming households in Etulo communities. According to the statement released by his Press Secretary, Comr. Simeon Terlumun Aer, the affected communities include Adagbu, Awe-Agbou, Okwese-Otsafu, Oglube, Agbatala and Oglazi.

The flooding reportedly submerged cassava and rice farms, while some residents were said to have fled their homes after floodwaters rose during the night. The reported damage has raised concerns about food security and the economic wellbeing of families who depend on farming for their livelihoods.

Hon. Aondoakura called on the Benue State Government, the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (Benue SEMA) and other humanitarian partners to intervene by providing urgent relief and assessing the needs of affected residents.

However, the exact number of displaced persons, households affected and hectares of farmland damaged had not been confirmed in the report. The full extent of the flooding and the status of any emergency response also remain unclear.

The council chairman assured residents that the situation remained a concern to his administration, while further information is awaited from relevant authorities.
