In a glowing recognition of decades of selfless service and transformational leadership in healthcare, the Chief Medical Director of Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) Makurdi, Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, has been conferred with a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in the Medical Sector by the National Association of Nigeria Youth Ambassador for Peace Initiative (NANYAPI).
The honour was presented to Dr. Hwande on Friday, 28th November 2025, right in his office in Makurdi by a high-powered delegation of the youth-led peace and development organisation.
Receiving the award, an elated Dr. Hwande commended NANYAPI for its consistent dedication to societal development and peace advocacy across the country. He described the recognition as a catalyst that will further deepen the existing partnership between BSUTH and the organisation, opening new doors for collaborative initiatives that will drive development in Benue State.
The BSUTH helmsman challenged the group to design bold, impactful programmes capable of attracting government support, stressing that synergy between public institutions and youth organisations remains the surest way to build a progressive state.
He also urged Nigerian youths to always elect leaders with sound ideologies who prioritise job creation, self-reliance, and programmes that uplift the poor and vulnerable.
National President of NANYAPI, Comrade Ambassador Abraham Aji, while making the presentation, described Dr. Hwande as “the best-performing CMD in the history of BSUTH,” praising his exemplary leadership and unmatched achievements in repositioning the teaching hospital into a centre of excellence.
Benue State President of the organisation, Comrade Ambassador Nyikwagh Florence Mwuese, added that Dr. Hwande has single-handedly revitalised healthcare delivery in the state and reaffirmed NANYAPI’s readiness to continue supporting his vision while promoting youth empowerment nationwide.
The award adds yet another feather to Dr. Hwande’s already decorated cap as he continues to receive widespread acclaim for turning BSUTH into one of the fastest-growing tertiary health institutions in North-Central Nigeria.
