The Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC) has kicked off the assembly of 525 motorcycles under its flagship Youth Hire-Purchase Scheme, in a major push to empower young people and stimulate economic activities across the state.
The initiative is designed to provide sustainable livelihood opportunities for Benue youths while boosting commercial transportation and small-scale businesses in both urban and rural areas.
Group Managing Director of BIPC, Dr. Raymond Asemakaha-CFA, said the motorcycles represent a deliberate and expanding strategy by the company to support young residents through its hire-purchase and empowerment programmes.
“The project is designed to reduce unemployment, encourage self-reliance, and deepen economic participation among residents,” he explained.
Dr. Asemakaha-CFA described the latest batch as a significant scale-up of the programme, which has already benefited several youths in earlier phases. He noted that the scheme will further expand access to income-generating opportunities, particularly in the transportation sector where many young people already rely on commercial motorcycle operations (popularly known as “okada”) for daily survival.
In a related remark, Dr. Raymond Asemakaha Jr. commended Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, for creating an enabling environment that has allowed BIPC to thrive and deliver impactful economic initiatives.
He said the governor’s support has continued to strengthen the company’s drive toward job creation and industrial growth in the state.
Officials believe the motorcycle assembly project will reinforce BIPC’s position as a key driver of economic empowerment, youth development, and internally generated revenue growth in Benue State.
By making motorcycles available through the hire-purchase model, the scheme enables beneficiaries to own the bikes after instalment payments, turning them into assets that can generate steady income rather than one-off handouts.
This latest intervention comes as Benue continues to seek innovative ways to tackle youth unemployment and harness the energy of its young population for productive economic activities.
Benue Info-pedia will keep monitoring the rollout of the scheme and provide updates on its implementation and impact on beneficiaries.
