The Benue State Bureau of Homeland Security has raised a strong alarm over a rising recruitment scam targeting desperate job seekers hoping to join the newly created Nigerian Forest Guards.
In an official statement released on 1st December 2025, the Bureau sounded a clear warning: fraudsters are currently posing as recruitment agents and middlemen, illegally demanding money from unsuspecting applicants with false promises of securing slots in the ongoing national recruitment exercise.
The agency categorically stated that it is the only body authorized to handle candidate shortlisting, screening, and recruitment for the Nigerian Forest Guards in Benue State. No individual, group, or third party has been empowered to collect any form of payment on its behalf.
“Residents are urged to completely ignore anyone requesting payment for recruitment assistance,” the statement read. “The entire process follows an official and transparent procedure and is absolutely free.”
Authorities further advised anyone who has already paid money to supposed agents to immediately report to the Bureau’s office with proof of payment for swift investigation and possible recovery action.
Director General of the Bureau, Air Commodore JA Gbamwuan (Rtd), reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to due process, accountability, and the protection of Benue citizens from exploitation.
The warning comes as hundreds of youths across the state have been expressing interest in the Forest Guard positions, making them easy targets for criminals taking advantage of high unemployment and the desire for stable government jobs.
Citizens are advised to rely only on verified government channels for information and application guidelines regarding the Nigerian Forest Guards recruitment to avoid falling victim to these fraudulent schemes.
