In a heartwarming display of inter-state legislative harmony, the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga, has commended lawmakers from Nasarawa State for choosing Benue as the venue for their ongoing legislative retreat, describing the gesture as a powerful symbol of renewed brotherhood between the two neighbouring states.
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, led by its Speaker, Rt. Hon. Dauda Jatau, is currently holding a multi-day legislative retreat in Makurdi, with members lodged at the popular Dony Resorts.
On Thursday, Speaker Emberga paid a familiarization and solidarity visit to his Nasarawa counterparts at the resort, where he urged them to continue nurturing the existing cordial relationship between both legislatures.
He emphasized that sustained collaboration and regular interactions among lawmakers of both states would further entrench peace, unity, and regional stability in North-Central Nigeria, especially given the shared cultural and geographical proximity between Benue and Nasarawa.
The visiting Nasarawa lawmakers, in return, warmly received Rt. Hon. Emberga and his team, expressing profound gratitude for the exceptional hospitality extended to them since their arrival in Benue.
Political observers see the retreat and the cross-visit as a practical step towards stronger legislative synergy, knowledge sharing, and joint approaches to common challenges facing the two states, including security, agriculture, and infrastructure development.
The event once again highlights Speaker Emberga’s growing reputation for fostering legislative diplomacy and regional integration since assuming office.
As both Houses continue their respective programmes, there are strong indications that more joint legislative initiatives and exchange programmes between Benue and Nasarawa may soon be announced.
