The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has officially kicked off training for its much-anticipated electronic membership registration exercise, marking a significant step toward digital transformation within Nigeria’s ruling party at the state level.
The training session, held at the APC Secretariat in Makurdi on Wednesday, 4th December 2025, was declared open by the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga. Speaking at the event, the state party chairman, Chief Benjamin Omale, described the shift to an electronic membership register as a game-changer that will strengthen internal party structures, enhance transparency, and boost electoral readiness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Chief Omale expressed gratitude to Governor Hyacinth Alia for personally sponsoring the training programme, calling it a clear demonstration of the governor’s commitment to modernising and deepening democratic processes within the APC in Benue State. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emberga, echoed these sentiments, commending both Governor Alia and President Bola Tinubu for recently passing a vote of confidence in their leadership.
Benue APC officials believe a credible digital membership database is now non-negotiable if the party is to reposition itself as a modern, technology-driven political organisation.
Benue State Coordinator for the e-registration exercise, Hon. James Ornguga, stressed that digitalising membership records will not only strengthen the party’s foundation but also improve operational efficiency across all 276 wards. He revealed that the party is on a “strategic mission to count its votes before the election” by documenting every single member digitally, with close monitoring from the highest levels, including President Tinubu, National Chairman Prof. Nentawé Yilwatda, and Governor Alia, and the state leadership.
Participants were taken through the technical processes of the e-registration platform by zonal coordinators Comrade Angula Bishop Reuben (Zone A), Hon. Reuben Lubem Nyinya (Zone B), and Hon. Attah Mark Ochoga (Zone C). The Chairman of the Benue Internal Revenue Service, Hon. Joseph Kwaghgba, also addressed the gathering, urging teamwork between supervisors and ward agents to ensure full mobilisation.
In her closing remarks, Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Lami Danladi Ogenyi, called for strict adherence to guidelines to guarantee accuracy and uniformity. The party leadership has directed local government supervisors and ward registration agents to intensify efforts and embrace additional refresher training sessions, with all capacity-building activities expected to be concluded in the second week of December.
The APC urged members and the general public to await further directives on the official commencement date of the statewide e-registration proper.
The move aligns with the national leadership’s directive, reiterated recently by APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawé Yilwatda, to fully implement the digital membership project launched last year across the country. Benue State appears determined to be at the forefront of this digital revolution within the party as it prepares for the battles of 2027.
