What started as a small “brother-to-brother” goodwill job in Abuja two years ago has now exploded into one of the messiest public call-outs in Benue politics today.
Ortyom Gabriel Chigh, a Makurdi-based graphic designer, has openly declared war on Hon. Haakyaav Tombu Peter, a frontline APC House of Representatives aspirant for Buruku Federal Constituency, over an unpaid bill for campaign posters designed since 2023.
According to Chigh, he bumped into Haakyaav on the streets of Abuja in 2023, and out of shared cultural ties and goodwill, agreed to design a set of political posters for the aspiring lawmaker. The job was delivered the same day and posted online by Haakyaav’s team within minutes.
Trouble started when it was time for payment.
Chigh said it took the politician five solid hours to even ask for the price. After the account details were sent, nothing entered for over 24 hours. When he politely followed up, he claims Haakyaav called him “disrespectful” (disrespectful), insulted him, and blocked him everywhere.
Two years later, the money – which Chigh says “no even reach money for beer” – is still unpaid.
This afternoon, the frustrated designer went nuclear on Facebook, posting receipts, old chats, the original artwork, and even revealing where Haakyaav is currently lodging in Makurdi.
His exact words: “The money no even reach anything, na money for beer. But respect is respect. If I see am again, I go confront am physically. Make una help me tell am make e pay me my money.”
Within hours the post went viral across Benue groups, with many mocking the aspirant for refusing to pay what many are calling “beer money” yet wanting to represent people in the National Assembly.
Some commenters are asking how a man who cannot settle a common graphic designer can be trusted with billions of constituency funds, while others are simply laughing at the drama.
Hon. Haakyaav Tombu Peter is yet to respond publicly as of the time of this report, but his media team has gone quiet on all platforms.
One thing is clear: in 2025, even the smallest unpaid debt can become the biggest campaign headache.
Chigh has vowed not to back down until the money enters his account – beer money or not.
