The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the cancellation of the parade scheduled for October 1 to mark the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary. The decision was detailed in a statement signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
Despite the cancellation, the government emphasized that the move is not intended to diminish the significance of this milestone anniversary. The SGF reaffirmed that all other activities planned for the celebration will go ahead as scheduled, with the government remaining committed to marking the occasion “with dignity and enthusiasm.”
The statement expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation and extended appreciation to Nigerians, the diplomatic community, and invited guests for their understanding and support. It further urged citizens to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms aimed at building a greater Nigeria.
This development comes as the nation prepares to reflect on 65 years of independence, with alternative celebrations set to honor the occasion in a meaningful way.
