The Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Council, Hon. Prince Maxwell Ogiri, has commended the youths of Otukpo Township Ward 1, operating under the auspices of Youth Alive Community Watch Ward 1, for their outstanding participation in last Saturday’s compulsory monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the ward. Prince Ogiri specifically praised the President of the group, Hon. Sunday Enokela Elagbudu, for providing exemplary leadership, while also applauding the Otukpo Chief Health Officer, Comrade Sanitarian Bernard Oloche Alome, for his diligent supervision and coordination of the exercise.
The Chairman gave the commendation after assessing the voluntary community service carried out by the youths, which included the evacuation of refuse, clearing of blocked gutters and drainage channels, cutting of overgrown bushes, and general environmental clean-up. He noted that the initiative aligns perfectly with his administration’s vision of building a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally sustainable Otukpo.
As part of efforts to encourage community participation in environmental sanitation, the Executive Chairman had earlier approved the procurement and distribution of sanitation equipment worth nearly Four Hundred Thousand Naira (₦400,000.00) to the group. The items supplied included wheelbarrows, rain boots, hand gloves, shovels, rakes, nose masks and other essential sanitation tools.
Prince Ogiri urged youths in the remaining council wards to emulate the commendable example set by their counterparts in Otukpo Township Ward 1 by embracing voluntary community service and taking collective responsibility for maintaining a clean and healthy environment. Also speaking, the Chairman of the National Union of Mine Workers (NUMW), Otukpo Chapter, Comrade Obande Moses Adah, lauded Hon. Prince Maxwell Ogiri for prioritising environmental health through practical support for community-driven sanitation initiatives. He equally commended the youths of Otukpo Township Ward 1 for their patriotism, cooperation and unwavering commitment to the development of their community.
The Otukpo Local Government Council reiterated its commitment to promoting environmental cleanliness and called on residents across the Local Government Area to actively support initiatives aimed at creating a safer, healthier and more beautiful Otukpo.
