Mbaiyon Traditional Council Pays Courtesy Visit to SGF George Akume Over Gboko Constituency Issues

The Mbaiyon Traditional Council, led by the President General of the Yion Development Association, Mr Orver Yongu, paid a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, to discuss matters relating to the restoration of a new constituency in Gboko and other community issues.

The delegation, which included the Mue-Ter Gboko, HRH Ikpa Ahua, highlighted concerns arising from the restoration of the constituency seat following court judgements and INEC’s delineation, which had generated tensions in the area.

The SGF appreciated the visit and reaffirmed Gboko’s strategic importance. He emphasized that constituency creation is a continuous process and urged unity and peaceful coexistence among the people. He also called for the rotation of the Assembly seat among constituent communities for fairness and equity.

Akume further disclosed ongoing plans by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the development of an airstrip in the area to boost economic growth and connectivity.

The visit was attended by several prominent leaders, elders, and stakeholders from the Yion and Mbaiyon communities.
