On June 13, 2026, residents of Yelewata gathered for a solemn memorial Mass to mark exactly one year since the Yelewata Genocide that claimed numerous lives in the area.
The Christian community converged at the Yelewata Genocide Memorial Monument to honour the victims of the tragic incident. The event served as a moment of remembrance, reflection, and prayer for those who lost their lives in the attack.
Photos from the occasion showed a large crowd of mourners participating in the memorial activities, underscoring the deep impact the event continues to have on the community.
The anniversary has once again brought attention to the persistent security challenges and farmer-herder conflicts in Benue State, with many using the occasion to call for justice and lasting peace in the affected regions.
