Former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa (SAN), has obtained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship nomination and expression of interest forms to contest the 2027 Benue State governorship election.

Aondoakaa, who emerged as the PDP consensus candidate, made the declaration on Tuesday at the party’s state secretariat in Makurdi. He pledged to prioritize the security of lives and property if elected governor, expressing deep concern over the worsening security situation in the state, which he attributed to perceived failures of the current administration.

Addressing journalists and PDP supporters, Aondoakaa praised the resilience and loyalty of party members and reaffirmed his confidence that the PDP remains the best positioned party to deliver quality leadership in Benue State. He promised that his government would be inclusive, engaging all stakeholders to tackle insecurity and other pressing challenges facing the state.

After collecting the forms, Aondoakaa visited the residence of the immediate past governor and PDP leader in the state, Chief Samuel Ortom, where he formally presented the nomination forms and thanked party members, particularly those who had contested alongside him, for their support and for rallying behind his emergence as the consensus candidate.

Chief Samuel Ortom congratulated Aondoakaa, describing his emergence as the beginning of a journey rather than its culmination. Ortom called on party members to intensify efforts towards securing victory for the PDP in 2027 and appealed to aggrieved aspirants and their supporters to set aside differences in the interest of the party.

Aondoakaa also lauded Chief Ortom and his wife, Dr. Eunice Ortom, for their leadership, which he said has restored unity within the PDP and strengthened the party’s chances in the 2027 elections.

The development marks a significant step in the PDP’s preparation for the 2027 governorship race in Benue State.
