A two-man assessment team from the Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (IPAN) on Tuesday, 5th May 2026, visited Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University (MOAU) in Makurdi to evaluate the institution’s laboratory capacity for lead (Pb) testing.
The visit focused on determining the readiness of the university’s laboratory facility for certification under national standards. The team was led by Dr. Ezekiel Gube Ibrahim, who was accompanied by Mr. Okon Anthony.
Dr. Ibrahim stated that the assessment aimed to evaluate the laboratory’s technical competence for accurate and reliable lead testing in line with both national and international requirements. The evaluation covered laboratory equipment, staff competence, safety procedures, and quality assurance systems to ascertain eligibility for inclusion in Nigeria’s network of accredited public analytical laboratories.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Eriba Otor, the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) described the exercise as a standard assessment process similar to that of the National Universities Commission (NUC). He noted that such engagements are crucial for strengthening institutional capacity and enhancing the university’s role in public health and environmental testing services.
The outcome of the assessment is expected to support improved laboratory standards at the institution.
