A new police station complete with barracks has been commissioned in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State as part of efforts to strengthen security in the area.
The facility was built by the Benue State House of Assembly member representing Gboko East State Constituency, Chief Hon. Mrs. Beckie Torkwase Orpin. It was officially commissioned and handed over to the Inspector General of Police on Thursday, April 30, 2026.
The event was chaired by Barr. Dr. Cosmas Akighir, the Board Chairman of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC). Dignitaries and constituents were present to witness the commissioning of the project, which is expected to improve police presence and response time in Gboko East.
Hon. Mrs. Beckie Torkwase Orpin’s initiative has been praised as a significant contribution towards enhancing security infrastructure in her constituency. The lawmaker’s project adds to growing efforts by some elected officials in Benue State to support security agencies through the provision of facilities.
The development comes at a time when many communities in the state continue to grapple with various security challenges, including banditry, kidnapping, and communal clashes. Stakeholders believe that the new police station and barracks will help boost the morale and operational effectiveness of officers deployed to the area.
Congratulations have been extended to the people of Gboko East for benefiting from this security-enhancing project initiated by their representative in the State House of Assembly.
