Several women sustained serious injuries from cutlass attacks in Mbayongo Tortsee and Chanchanghanji wards of Takum Local Government Area, Taraba State, on the afternoon of February 23, 2026.
According to eyewitness accounts shared on social media by a local group identified as Slow Pee SRG, the women were allegedly attacked by a Fulani herdsman using cutlasses. The victims were subsequently rushed to Torikiyegba for emergency medical treatment, where they are currently receiving care.
The post expressed relief that the injured women survived the assault, stating, “We thank God for their lives,” while including graphic descriptions and images of the victims being treated for deep wounds on various parts of their bodies. One image reportedly showed medical personnel attending to a woman lying on the floor with visible injuries, while others captured the victims in visible pain during treatment.
The account framed the incident as a reminder for women to remain vigilant, though specific details about the motive, exact circumstances leading to the attack, or whether it stemmed from a herder-farmer dispute, land conflict, or personal grievance were not provided in the initial report.
Takum LGA, located in southern Taraba State near the Benue border, has experienced recurring tensions between farming communities and nomadic herders in recent years. Such clashes often involve accusations of crop destruction, cattle rustling, or retaliatory violence, sometimes escalating into deadly confrontations with machetes and other weapons.
No official confirmation from the Taraba State Police Command, local government authorities, or security agencies has been reported as of February 24, 2026, regarding the incident. Efforts to verify the identities of the victims, the number of women injured, and the current status of their treatment are ongoing.
Community advocates and residents have used the social media post to highlight the vulnerability of women in rural conflict zones, calling for stronger security presence and peaceful resolution mechanisms to prevent further attacks on civilians. Authorities are yet to issue a statement or confirm any arrests in connection with the reported assault.
