A violent attack on the Ologba Community in Obagaji Council Ward has left one person dead and two others with life-threatening injuries, prompting swift action from local authorities and security agencies. The incident, which occurred on November 28, 2025, at approximately 11 p.m., has been strongly condemned by Hon. (Amb.) James Melvin Ejeh, Chairman of Agatu Local Government Council.
The attack, allegedly carried out by suspected criminals from Egba Village, resulted in the death of Oche Peter and left Mamuda Sale and Jaafaru Musa in critical condition. Injured victims are currently receiving treatment at the emergency ward of Benue State University Teaching Hospital in Makurdi.
In a statement, Hon. Ejeh described the act as heinous and intolerable, assuring the public that machinery is in motion to apprehend the perpetrators. “We have machinery in motion to fish out the perpetrators of this dastardly act, and they will face the full weight of the law,” he declared. Intelligence operations have been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspects, with all security agencies mobilized to dominate the general area and prevent reprisal and counter-reprisal attacks.
The attack is linked to a long-standing conflict between the two communities, which began in 1972 over disputes involving fish ponds and land boundaries. Due to the prolonged nature of the conflict, the Chairman noted that authorities are proposing a complete takeover of the disputed areas, converting them into a security formation and barracks. “While we continue to engage, mediate, and deradicalize both communities and their allies for peaceful coexistence,” Ejeh added.
Security agencies, including the Police, Anyam Nyom, and Operation Whirl Stroke, were immediately mobilized to the community, bringing the situation under control and averting further casualties. The deceased was buried this morning following police and coroner formalities.
Hon. Ejeh further assured the community of his commitment to ensuring their safety and security, urging all residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies. The incident has heightened tensions in the region, with local leaders calling for sustained efforts to address the root causes of the conflict.
The statement was released by Amb. Obochi Solomon, Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman of Agatu Local Government Council.
