Jato Aka, Kwande Local Government Area, Benue State Residents of Jato Aka community are in mourning following the tragic death of an internally displaced person, Mr. Terzungwe Orbam, who allegedly took his own life under distressing circumstances.
The deceased was an IDP from Ikyoawen in Turan, a community that has faced recurring security challenges in recent times. He reportedly collapsed shortly after ingesting the chemical and died before any meaningful medical intervention could be provided.
His remains have since been deposited in a mortuary, while the incident has left residents in shock. Some who spoke on the development described it as disturbing, saying the circumstances that may have led to the act remain unclear.
“This is very painful. Nobody seems to understand what he was going through,” a local resident said.
As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement from authorities on the incident. The development has further drawn attention to the growing mental health challenges faced by displaced persons in Benue State, with many residents and concerned observers calling for increased psychosocial support and urgent intervention for vulnerable communities affected by prolonged insecurity.
