In a heartfelt display of communal pride and solidarity, traditional rulers and elders of Aondona, Naka, in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State, formally hosted Dr. Shadrach Teryila Ukuma, the newly appointed Director General of the Bureau for Arts, Culture and Tourism, on Sunday, September 20, 2025.
The reception celebrated Dr. Ukuma’s appointment by Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia on September 14, 2025, with the kindred convening to officially receive their son, offer prayers and blessings, and express profound gratitude to the governor for recognizing his merit. Elders described the appointment as well-deserved, highlighting Dr. Ukuma’s exemplary track record of service, deep humility, and unwavering commitment to community development, noting how he has consistently honored his roots and followed in his father’s legacy through active support for local initiatives.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional leaders, the Kindred Head, Zaaki Ugula Ijen, emphasized Dr. Ukuma’s strong ties to his heritage and expressed full confidence that he would bring the same dedication and integrity to his new role in advancing arts, culture, and tourism across Benue State. The elders also commended Governor Alia for the trust placed in one of their own.
In response, Dr. Ukuma voiced deep appreciation for the honor, prayers, and longstanding support from his kinsmen, describing the appointment as both a privilege and a responsibility. He pledged to serve the state with excellence while remaining firmly connected to his community.
As a gesture of goodwill, the kinsmen presented him with symbolic gifts, further reaffirming their backing. Later, in the presence of Gwer West Local Government Chairman Victor Ormin, Dr. Ukuma engaged with youths of the Aondona community, urging them to embrace unity and actively support the state’s development agenda. To bolster youth mobilization, he donated office space and unveiled a billboard celebrating Governor Alia’s leadership.
The entire visit was hailed as a powerful example of humility, gratitude, and grassroots commitment, reinforcing Dr. Ukuma’s resolve to contribute meaningfully to Benue’s progress while staying true to his origins.
